Susan Banks

I am a Canberra based artist, and I make work about the energy around me, especially in the overlooked – weeds growing, people doing physical work, breathing, heartbeats. There is no boundary between my life and work- I live in my studio or work in my house, I am never quite sure which.

I completed an M Phil at the Australian National University Painting Workshop in 2018. In my practice led research into human vitality, I embedded myself in my local automotive repair workshop to draw, paint, photograph and talk to the mechanics.

In this website, as well as my own work, I include work that I have made with others, and that others have made with me. The sociable and cooperative aspect of being an artist is becoming increasingly important to me.
